The Arbeitsgemeinschaft works mostly for the preservation and supporting of the specific herding abilities of the Border Collie. It has as its aim to keep this dog which was especially bred for herding as a working dog and to support its training and availability at the herding work.
To use the genetic instincts a systematic training is necessary. The Arbeitsgemeinschaft organizes seminars during the open season. These are not only to train the dogs but the handler as well. He learns through practical work to use the dog according to its instincts. The seminars are held on weekends by experienced trainers. Participation is payed with a fee. At the end there may be a trial for the handlers with an easy course according to the training level of the dogs. There is as well German and English literature.
There are several trials during the open season. They are useful to show and control the performance of the Border Collies, and they are held in three different classes:
Class 1: Beginners
Class 2: Advanced
Class 3: Open Class
These events are a good time for all Border Collie friends and interesting events for all dog friends.
Each year there is a Continental Sheep Dog Championship. Each 5 or 6 years it is in Germany. All neighbour countries are invited to participate. The organization is done by the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Border Collie e.V.
The Arbeitsgemeinschaft supports talented trainers to give them the ability to support other interested handlers at the training of their working dogs.
The members of the Arbeitsgemeinschaft are informed by actual newsletters about internal events, seminars and trials. The newsletters come five to six times a year.
The members are asked to participate on all activities of the Arbeitsgemeinschaft, f.e. the layout of the newsletters with reports and pictures, regional training groups, supporting the seminars and trials aso.
The Arbeitsgemeinschaft tries to call the people's attention with articles and reports in the media to the Border Collie and its performance ability and to make it public as a working dog for paddock flocks, cows and dairy farms.
We welcome each and every owner of other herding dogs who take their dogs for herding work.
You enter the Arbeitsgemeinschaft with an written apprication. The members pay each year a certain amount to cover the costs.
The Arbeitsgemeinschaft Border Collie Deutschland e.V. is an official association since 1994.
Whoever likes our dogs and their work and the activities of the Arbeitsgemeinschaft is invited to join the Arbeitsgemeinschaft in becoming a member and/or in donating. Donations can be redrawn from tax!
